Frequently Asked Dental Questions – York, PA

Fast Answers For Your Pressing Dental Questions

Have a question for Dr. Cyriac or our team about your dental care? If so, we’re happy to answer it, and you’re invited to contact us any time to ask whatever is on your mind concerning you and your loved ones’ smiles. We’ve gone ahead and answered some of our most frequently asked dental questions below, but if there is anything else you’d like to know, don’t hesitate to give us a call!

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend coming to York Smile Care at least twice a year for a checkup and cleaning so we can find small issues early and prevent others from developing in the first place. Some patients (particularly those with gum disease) may require more frequent visits, but for most, two is enough to largely avoid cavities and other dental mishaps.

My gums bleed whenever I clean my teeth. Should I be concerned?

Yes, because you’re either brushing with too much pressure, or you have early-stage gum disease. Try brushing and flossing with a lighter touch for a few days, and if the bleeding continues, go ahead and give us a call. You likely have a low-grade infection, but we can take care of it easily at this stage before it causes any lasting damage.

One of my teeth really hurts. What should I do?

Is something stuck between your teeth? After rinsing and flossing the area, if the tooth still hurts, we recommend contacting our dental office. Even minor dental pain could indicate a potentially serious issue, and acting quickly will help us prevent it from becoming worse.

How long will it take to replace my missing tooth?

The answer to this question depends on a lot of factors, such as the location of the missing tooth, the oral health of a patient, and which type of replacement they choose. A bridge or denture can usually be designed and placed in a matter of weeks or months, while dental implants may take several months to a year to complete. The best way to get an answer is to come see us for an in-person consultation, and Dr. Cyriac will be happy to outline all your options.

How long will it take to fix my decayed/broken tooth?

We can usually repair a minor cavity or slightly cracked tooth with a filling in a single appointment, but for more extensive damage, we may recommend a crown. This typically requires two appointments to design and place.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

York Smile Care participates in most PPO dental insurance plans, so the answer is likely yes! To learn how we could use your particular plan at your next appointment, go ahead and give us a call.
